What is that in your mouth?

Surprisingly, for once, it was not food in his mouth. Adam has been drooling a lot more over the past couple weeks, so I knew that teething was right around the corner. I kept waiting for him to get fussy, so scream, I had planned to spend a couple sleepless nights rocking with him through his personal agony. So, when mom put her finger in Adam's mouth today and said, "He's got a tooth!" I was shocked! I was about to argue and tell her he couldn't have a tooth, that he hadn't cried yet. However, after washing my hands, I felt for myself that the little guy did, indeed, have a tooth. Mom said that it wasn't there when she checked yesterday.

Here's the point I'm making: While my baby's first tooth was breaking the skin, he spent the entire time smiling and kicking. My baby rules! Don't be too jealous!

yeah.....that's all

So, Adam is HUGE! He's over 20 pounds already. He's started eating cereal in the last couple weeks. He eats until you make him stop. We got pictures and video of him eating the first time. He is so excited about his eating. He waves his arms around, and kicks his legs, laughs...all while he's eating. He does this thing where he'll see the spoon coming for him and he'll lift his head up and somewhat impale himself on the spoon. Anything to narrow the distance between the food and his mouth. He's started to try to grab onto the spoon. I realized earlier this week that Adam has never fallen asleep while eating.

He hasn't rolled over yet. That may be attributed to his size. That's a lot for a little boy to roll. He's scooting a round a lot though. He wakes up in a completely different place in the crib then where I laid him down.

Bob has discovered some way for us to play old school Nintendo games on the computer. I'm quite enjoying it as I've never played these games. It's quite educational.

My little pig

Adam turned 4 months old today. Last night I put a 6-9 month onesie on him....and it fit! It's a little big, but it looks just fine. His pants are 3-6 month and they are way too big. He's a top heavy little boy.

Tired

I am so tired. I'm going through that time of the year (end of Jan. to March) where I'm just blah. It's the seasonal depression crap. I hate it. I'm tired all the time now, and can't get enough sleep. Oh well, I'll get over it.

I should be posting some new pics of Adam soon. He's a little chunk!

So, I'm wondering about Marsha....

Where is she on the interwebs? Every other family is represented on Facebook, and Stefanie lurks around on here....but where is Marsha? This is the official draft Marsha to the internets (yes, internets....if you don't get it, google: Bush internets) blog entry.

Incidently, we all need to get a Facebook account or something where we can keep in touch. While we're at it, we also need to draft mom to Facebook. Wouldn't that be cute? Mom becoming a fan of chocolate, Vince Gil, and quilting, while sending us all a piece of flair, and taking the quiz, "What 90s rap star are you?"

Oh the fun!

A quick update

I've been told that I need to update my blog. There isn't really much going on other than watching Adam grow! He's a fat little boy. He turned 3 months on the first. He never met a bottle he didn't like. He's probably a little past 15 pounds. He's got the cutest smile, and he's starting to coo. He has a HUGE fascination with lights. Anytime he was fussy, I'd just turn the Christmas lights on and he'd calm right down. To get his attention, we turn him away from the lights and TV. He couldn't care less about sounds though. We did a little experiment and clapped right by his ear and he never even flinched. We know he can hear because he responds to our voices. With parents that have the last names Robrecht and Shrader, he's becoming a good German boy. He's discovering his left fist and when he looks at it, it's looks exactly like the "Heil Hitler" salute. Like all mothers, I'm completely biased and I have the cutest baby in the world.

Christmas was good, Bob has a new job, and Adam is happy and healthy....all is right with the world.

I'm still alive

I've been slacking on my writing and a couple people have pointed this out to me. Tonight, I'm extremely tired, so you'll have to get over all the typos and errors.

Adam is 1 month old now. He has grown SO much. You can tell how much by looking at his head. It looks like he has a receding hairline from where his head has gotten bigger! He's eating like a horse too! He eats 3-5 ounces every 2 hours. He's like clockwork during the night....every two hours. No matter how much sleep you get, if you're being woke up every 2 hours, it just doesn't feel like enough! However, Adam is so sweet and so precious that it makes up for it.

Lots of other stuff has been going on as well, but it's not really stuff you'd post on a public blog. Bob is in the process of starting a new job. I'm getting over a cold.

Adam's blessing is tomorrow....anyone who reads my blog will be there tomorrow, so I don't have to say too much about it. Bob will be there! YAY! The rest of my family finally get to meet Bob and find out that he is real and does exist.

Other than that, Adam is bathed, fed, changed, and going to sleep....as am I!

One week...

I'm sure that no one is surprised by this statement, but I am exhausted! I'm not sure who thought up the idea that mothers should give birth and be the primary caregivers, but yeah....it's exhausting. I've got a bit of postpartum depression. It's been tiring trying to get him to eat. Just today we started supplementing Adam with formula. He's just not latching on and sucking. He does the same thing with a bottle..... I'm still pumping and giving it to him in the morning and at night. I've been going over to mom's everyday while Bob is at work. That's helped a lot.

Adam is so sweet though, that it makes up for any inconvenience or lack of sleep.

Coming home

Adam and I got to come home from the hospital yesterday evening. We brought him in, showed him the living room and then took him upstairs, laid him on the bed and played with him until he was hungry again. He is so sweet and so mellow.

Last night was a bit of a chore. He woke up hungry, and I went to get him. I tried and tried to get him to nurse. He'd suck for a few seconds and then just stop and scream. After 20 minutes of this, I was starting to get frustrated. Bob came and rescued me! He found Adam and me both crying! He took Adam and the minute he did, Adam settled down. We both took turns walking with him for the next half hour until he finally fell back asleep. Over the next few hours he woke up several times, I'd get up, give him his pacifier back, and go back to bed.

We actually made it through our first night. This morning, however, we've both slept 3 hours. He's still asleep actually. I'm still waiting on my milk to come in. I'm producing more, but not enough. Soon hopefully....

Drugs are good

Apparently, I'm doing a lot better than most women that have C-sections. I had my catheter taken out this morning, along with my epidural (where I have a HUGE bruise that we got a picture of), and have been up, moving around all day.

Adam and I are finally making some progress nursing. Mom showed me a couple things and they have been working. He's so little.... My breasts are bigger than his head (and my milk hasn't even come in yet), so I'm afraid I'm going to smother him or something. We gave him a pacifier today hoping it would stimulate sucking. Luckily, it worked really well, and now he's latching on a lot better. I'm sure you all wanted to hear about that....

Anyway, I'm pretty drugged up and Bob and I are getting ready to watch the VP debate. It should be interesting. I promise, pics are on their way, Bob has been busy today.

I'm doing well, Adam is as cute as ever....all is right with the world!

He's here!!!!!

Adam was born at 2:40 PM, 5 pounds 11 oz, 19 inches long. With the exception of his nose, he looks just like his dad.

My part was extremely easy actually. I was most worried about the epidural. I was numbed up, and three times he tried tuck me to try to get the epidural in, and three times it failed. It didn't hurt, but there was so much pressure trying to get the epidural in, it hurt. He just did the spinal block and called it good. After they did that, I started to get a little nauseated, and got more meds for that. The doctor came in and started joking with me about "Republican issues" (yeah, we like to talk politics), and Bob came in in a few minutes later.

So, I got sliced up, Bob got some amazing pictures, and I got to meet my little boy! I was in recovery for a couple hours, while Bob and Mom and Dad were upstairs watching Adam. His blood sugar was a little low and he got some sugar water. He got warmed up, had a bath, and then warmed up again.

When I got back from recovery, Mom and Dad were still here, and Marsha, Emma, and Abby came by for a few minutes. I couldn't get out of bed because I was still numb, and Abby ran back every few minutes giving me updates on Adam.

Adam was brought to my room about 9 PM when he was warm enough. I tried to nurse him for a little bit. One of the nurses came in and helped me and she said she hadn't seen a baby latch on and nurse that well in a while. I'm hopeful I'll be able to nurse him.

So, now, it's quiet, Bob is holding Adam, and I'm getting caught up with people wanting to know about Adam. He is so sweet, and so precious. I love him so much!

We sent mom one pic and she said she'd wait until we had a pic of him all cleaned up--so those will be coming tomorrow. We've taken lots of pics, and are very excited to show him off.

*Sigh* I'm so happy!

4 hours, 20 minutes

I'm just checking my stuff one last time this morning. I'm extremely nervous..... *sigh* I can't wait!

13 hours and counting....

We have 13 hours until we have to be at the hospital! We have to be there at 10 AM, and my section is at 12:20 PM. I am SO excited. I'm really going to miss being pregnant, but I can't wait to see him, and hold him.

There is another sister in the ward who had her baby this morning. It'll be nice to be in there with her....if I even see her.

We've cleaned, set everything up, and packed all out bags in the car. I'm so excited!!!

For those who have had C-sections, how long are you generally in recovery? I'm thinking like a regular surgery, but I have no idea....

Once day left!

What should I remember for last minute? I've thought of all the normal stuff. Anything I should remember to take to the hospital? Stuff you wish you'd brought? Sigh....

We're putting up the crib tomorrow, changing voter registration, and sleeping.

I'm pretty incoherent right now, nothing new to say. Just getting closer.

T-2 days....

That's all. Two days left. I'm excited, and I have tons of things to do still.

With that, I'm going to bed so I can get an early start tomorrow.

And so it ends....

Went to the doctor today and had the ultrasound to look at the placenta. I still have a blocked gate. However, my amniotic fluid was low (it was 5.3, and 5 is considered very low), so they hooked me up to a fetal monitor, and did a non-stress test. So, the doctor wants me to have another NST Saturday, Monday, and on Wednesday I'll have a C-section! I cannot wait! I am so miserable and it just keeps getting worse. I'm on complete bed rest until then, and was told to drink lots and lots of water.

So, yes, October 1st!!!!!

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

No date....sigh

Well, I went to the doctor today and someone had messed up. I was supposed to have an ultrasound today to look at the placenta, and see where it was. That didn't get set up and so we scheduled the ultrasound for Thursday morning, and an appointment with the doctor next Tuesday. I'm hoping that they will look at it Thursday and decide that I need to have this baby QUICK!!!!! We shall see though.

I'm still miserable, still nothing going on. Bob cleaned the kitchen today. That made me happy. And when I say cleaned, I mean CLEANED. Apparently he has the nesting urge worse than I do. I have it, but I'm too sore to do anything about it, so I just fuss about it, and get frustrated because I can't do anything.

I'm spending my days playing World of Warcraft, watching the markets (yes, I watch the foreign markets), and eating. Fun fun!!!

I'm Miserable....

I got about 3 hours sleep last night between tossing and turning, and going to the bathroom. I went to church today. I got lucky though. I went to the bathroom in the middle of sacrament meeting and when I came out, Marsha was sitting on the couch with Emma. Yes, I sat on the couch rather than going back in. When I did finally go back in, dad rubbed my back for the rest of sacrament meeting. I was starving during Sunday School, and mom had a piece of dark chocolate she gave me, and I stole Abby's granola bar out of Marsha's diaper bag. However, that plan backfired, and I got TERRIBLE heartburn during RS. So bad, in fact, that I went and threw up. We had a linger longer after church where I ate some more, simply because I was starving in spite of my heartburn. I came home and took what could be called a nap, got up a few hours ago, and have been trying to find a comfortable position ever since. My right hip just aches no matter what position it's in.

I've noticed that my posts are becoming more and more incoherent and full of typos....I'll just blame it on baby brain.

I'm heading to bed soon, I'm worn out!

Lazy Day

I got up at 1:30 PM today. I laid in bed most of the night unable to find a comfortable position. I finally fell asleep out of pure exhaustion about 5 AM. I woke up sore, as always, and came downstairs. I fell asleep in the recliner, then went back to bed and got up at 7!

Between my two naps, mom stopped by with the mattress crib. Nancy sent down her crib for for me, but mom set it up in the house. Bob had acquired a crib before Nancy sent hers down, but it didn't have a mattress in it. So, mom is keeping Nancy's crib, but I told her she had to get a crib mattress for the crib Bob got. However, I'm still getting Nancy's changing table. The crib should be here tomorrow and we can finish setting up the baby's room.

We have so many baby clothes! Somehow, I managed to get a good spread of different sizes, so I won't need to get any for a good while. On September 11th, I had a baby shower (is that a bad omen?). I got a lot of the accessories I needed, and what I still need can be gotten with what I return....I got about 6 of those hygiene kits, so that will get the few odds and ends we need.

As for me, I'm just trying to stay quiet and stay down as much as possible. Bob has been awesome about fixing dinner, getting me what I need, etc. I hate asking, but if he offers.... :)

I'm hoping to be well enough to go to church in the morning. I should be all right though. The pews hurt me so bad! They get hard after 20 minutes and I sit and squirm the rest of the time.

I'm going to play World of Warcraft for a little bit and go to bed!

I'm back

So, I'm finally getting around to posting some more. A few people have started their own blogs and I decided I should fire this thing back up.

Anyway, as things stand, I should have a little more than a week left until Adam is here! Bob and I are getting so excited. We've been organizing the baby's room and sorting through little baby socks, clothes, and accessories.

I haven't been feeling all that great these past couple days. I've been feeling really really heavy and cannot sleep! When I wake up my hips ache for hours until I've finally gotten the kinks worked out. I'm sure this will be the longest week of my life!

I have my last doctor appt. on Tuesday. We'll be setting a date for the C-section then.

It's late, I'm tired. I'm off to get my half hour of sleep before I have to go to the bathroom!
