One week...

I'm sure that no one is surprised by this statement, but I am exhausted! I'm not sure who thought up the idea that mothers should give birth and be the primary caregivers, but yeah....it's exhausting. I've got a bit of postpartum depression. It's been tiring trying to get him to eat. Just today we started supplementing Adam with formula. He's just not latching on and sucking. He does the same thing with a bottle..... I'm still pumping and giving it to him in the morning and at night. I've been going over to mom's everyday while Bob is at work. That's helped a lot.

Adam is so sweet though, that it makes up for any inconvenience or lack of sleep.

Coming home

Adam and I got to come home from the hospital yesterday evening. We brought him in, showed him the living room and then took him upstairs, laid him on the bed and played with him until he was hungry again. He is so sweet and so mellow.

Last night was a bit of a chore. He woke up hungry, and I went to get him. I tried and tried to get him to nurse. He'd suck for a few seconds and then just stop and scream. After 20 minutes of this, I was starting to get frustrated. Bob came and rescued me! He found Adam and me both crying! He took Adam and the minute he did, Adam settled down. We both took turns walking with him for the next half hour until he finally fell back asleep. Over the next few hours he woke up several times, I'd get up, give him his pacifier back, and go back to bed.

We actually made it through our first night. This morning, however, we've both slept 3 hours. He's still asleep actually. I'm still waiting on my milk to come in. I'm producing more, but not enough. Soon hopefully....

Drugs are good

Apparently, I'm doing a lot better than most women that have C-sections. I had my catheter taken out this morning, along with my epidural (where I have a HUGE bruise that we got a picture of), and have been up, moving around all day.

Adam and I are finally making some progress nursing. Mom showed me a couple things and they have been working. He's so little.... My breasts are bigger than his head (and my milk hasn't even come in yet), so I'm afraid I'm going to smother him or something. We gave him a pacifier today hoping it would stimulate sucking. Luckily, it worked really well, and now he's latching on a lot better. I'm sure you all wanted to hear about that....

Anyway, I'm pretty drugged up and Bob and I are getting ready to watch the VP debate. It should be interesting. I promise, pics are on their way, Bob has been busy today.

I'm doing well, Adam is as cute as ever....all is right with the world!

He's here!!!!!

Adam was born at 2:40 PM, 5 pounds 11 oz, 19 inches long. With the exception of his nose, he looks just like his dad.

My part was extremely easy actually. I was most worried about the epidural. I was numbed up, and three times he tried tuck me to try to get the epidural in, and three times it failed. It didn't hurt, but there was so much pressure trying to get the epidural in, it hurt. He just did the spinal block and called it good. After they did that, I started to get a little nauseated, and got more meds for that. The doctor came in and started joking with me about "Republican issues" (yeah, we like to talk politics), and Bob came in in a few minutes later.

So, I got sliced up, Bob got some amazing pictures, and I got to meet my little boy! I was in recovery for a couple hours, while Bob and Mom and Dad were upstairs watching Adam. His blood sugar was a little low and he got some sugar water. He got warmed up, had a bath, and then warmed up again.

When I got back from recovery, Mom and Dad were still here, and Marsha, Emma, and Abby came by for a few minutes. I couldn't get out of bed because I was still numb, and Abby ran back every few minutes giving me updates on Adam.

Adam was brought to my room about 9 PM when he was warm enough. I tried to nurse him for a little bit. One of the nurses came in and helped me and she said she hadn't seen a baby latch on and nurse that well in a while. I'm hopeful I'll be able to nurse him.

So, now, it's quiet, Bob is holding Adam, and I'm getting caught up with people wanting to know about Adam. He is so sweet, and so precious. I love him so much!

We sent mom one pic and she said she'd wait until we had a pic of him all cleaned up--so those will be coming tomorrow. We've taken lots of pics, and are very excited to show him off.

*Sigh* I'm so happy!

4 hours, 20 minutes

I'm just checking my stuff one last time this morning. I'm extremely nervous..... *sigh* I can't wait!

13 hours and counting....

We have 13 hours until we have to be at the hospital! We have to be there at 10 AM, and my section is at 12:20 PM. I am SO excited. I'm really going to miss being pregnant, but I can't wait to see him, and hold him.

There is another sister in the ward who had her baby this morning. It'll be nice to be in there with her....if I even see her.

We've cleaned, set everything up, and packed all out bags in the car. I'm so excited!!!

For those who have had C-sections, how long are you generally in recovery? I'm thinking like a regular surgery, but I have no idea....

Once day left!

What should I remember for last minute? I've thought of all the normal stuff. Anything I should remember to take to the hospital? Stuff you wish you'd brought? Sigh....

We're putting up the crib tomorrow, changing voter registration, and sleeping.

I'm pretty incoherent right now, nothing new to say. Just getting closer.
